We’ve had a few days with beautiful weather recently (although at the moment the ground is covered with snow…) and it has made me completely ready for Spring! As I’ve been thinking about what kinds of resources to create and share in the coming months, I realized that I have not made any logic puzzles recently. These Spring themed logic puzzles are great for upper elementary kids on up, and provide a fun challenge as they begin to use algebraic thinking and logic.

As I’ve mentioned before, these puzzles are essentially a system of linear equations. So even though they have cute pictures and are simple enough for elementary or middle school age kids to work out, I have used them with high school students as an introduction to systems.
Using These Spring Themed Logic Puzzles:
The puzzle is set up to show the sum of each row and column, with the individual values of each picture unknown.
Using whatever method students are capable of, they must determine the value of each picture.
In this set, there is one row in each puzzle that includes 3 of the same picture. Therefore, you can start with that picture and divide the total by 3.
In the picture above, for example, the last column has 3 bunnies which equal a total of 24. Therefore, each bunny is worth 8.
Once you know the value of one picture, you can use it to determine the other two using one of the other rows of the puzzle (again, using Algebra).
I love these puzzles, because it is an opportunity to expose young kids to Algebra and problem solving without bogging them down with complex calculations or formal equations.
It’s also really fun to see how excited they get when they realize how to figure the values out and then prove their answers by calculating each row and column.
Included in the Spring Themed Logic Puzzles Pack:
- Three different logic puzzles in both color and black and white
- Answer key for each puzzle
I hope your kids have fun with these!
Want more puzzles? This set includes some slightly more challenging puzzles.
And if your kids love logic puzzles and brain teasers, they may enjoy this set of Sudoku-like puzzles using pattern blocks! Hands-on logic fun for ages 4-9!
