Apple Tree About Me! {A Back to School Math Activity}

Are your kids ready for back to school yet?? Whether you homeschool or not, I’m guessing you’re gearing up for a new year. I finally settled on a start date for our homeschool year, which means I have a LOT of work to do! Haha! If you’re heading back to school as well, try this fun Apple themed back to school math activity. It’s a great way to learn about your students and review math facts!

A fun and easy "about me" back to school math activity! A great idea for getting kids thinking about math as they head back to school!

If it were up to my daughter, however, we would have started yesterday, so I created a back to school math review that was a fun way to get back in the groove! She was thrilled, and had a lot of fun!

Because the first day of school often involves a lot of “all about me” type activities, I wanted to do something that would allow students to share, but also review some basic math concepts. This Apple Tree About Me is intended for kids who are starting 2nd through 4th grade this year (though I was able to do it with my daughter by providing a lot of guidance).

Also included in this download are blank apples, in case you would like to adapt it for a different age group. This could be used as a fun activity for Kindergarteners to practice writing and using numbers (they would just write 1 sister, 2 cats, etc. on their apples). Or, you could use this with older students and have them create their own “math about me” apples, given whatever specific criteria you would like them to focus on. It’s entirely up to you!

All you need to do to use this is print the apple tree and apples. Then students will fill in the questions and solve the math problems on the apples before cutting them out and gluing them on their tree!

Or if you’d like to create a large tree on your classroom wall, you could have your students simply answer the questions on their apples and then everyone could hang their apples on the tree in your classroom! Just be sure they write their names on their apples, so everyone will know whose is whose. 🙂

And of course, if you love the apple theme and you have young ones, why not read some fun apple stories such as Ten Apples Up On Top! or The Apple Pie That Papa Baked (similar in style to The House That Jack Built).
