June Math Problem of the Day Calendar

I know you are probably gearing up for summer and the long awaited break from school, but today I wanted to share a simple way to keep learning over the summer! This June Math Problem of the Day Calendar can be used each day for a quick 5 minutes of math to keep those brains sharp in the midst of swimming pools and sleepovers, and any other summer fun you have planned!

Keep kids brains active this summer with a fun and low prep June Math Problem of the day calendar! This is such an easy way to review math skills over the summer!

*Note: This calendar is from June 2016. You can get a set of summer calendars for 2017 here!

If you’re not familiar with my calendars, let me explain how they work. Each calendar is a simple one page June calendar, with a math problem on each day of the month. The twist is that each day, the solution is equal to the date.

This allows kids to self check, and gives them a chance to prove themselves. Encourage them to write or talk through the solution and provide evidence that it is in fact true (rather than simply writing the solution because they already know the date).

If you are a classroom teacher who will be saying goodbye to your students soon, you may want to print these to send home with parents.

If you’re a parent looking for an easy way to review over the break, this is perfect for you as well! Simple, low prep and fun!

And if the thought of giving your kids math to do everyday sounds like torture, feel free to adjust it to meet your schedule. 🙂

Some ideas for using the calendar over the summer:

  • Have a weekly “Math Monday” where they solve one week of problems at once (this may take 10-20 minutes depending on your child)
  • Have a daily math talk at breakfast (or dinner) where you read the question of the day aloud and solve it orally (no one ever said it had to be written!). If you have more than one child, you could even turn it into a competition to see who can solve it first!

However it works to fit it into your summer fun, I hope it provides a simple and unique way to continue honing those math skills over the summer!

  11. YES! We have been using your math calendars for about 4 months now. We like them. We would use one for July if you get enough interest to make it.

My son (Kindergarten) quickly caught on to the patterns of the numbers for the dates, so now we cut up the calendar and do the problem and then glue it back on to the right spot on a different blank calendar. Just another idea for those looking for a way to change things up every now and then.

Thanks again for your hard work and all your ideas!

  25. How do you create these? Would this be something you could utilize for the higher grades? I know its a bit elementary, but I have a 6th, 7th, and 10th grader. I”d like to utilize these, but the math gets exponentially harder in the higher grades.

    1. Hi Heather,

Yes, this is definitely possible in the higher grades, I simply haven’t had time to create a more challenging set yet. The way I create them is by thinking about topics/problems that will have 1 exact solution, then I write out all the problems on a piece of paper from 1-30 (or 31). I try to make sure there’s a variety of topics and problem types, so it’s not the same thing every single day. It’s a pretty time consuming process, but I do plan to have a set for older kids in the future. 🙂

  26. i love all of your ideas, I have heaps on pintrest if you would like to take a look
