Christmas Make Ten Sort {FREE}
Welcome to the second day in my series, “The 12 Days of Christmas Printables.” Over the course of 12 days, I am sharing 12 different Christmas themed games and activities for Kindergarten through Algebra! Knowing how to “make ten” is an important early math skill because it can be used as a strategy to solve more challenging problems. How to Use the Christmas Make Ten Sort:
This download is fairly straightforward. It includes two Christmas tree cards that say, “Equal to 10” and “Not Equal to 10.”
It then includes a set of Christmas tree decorations with addition problems.
To complete, kids simply “decorate” the Christmas trees by sorting the addition facts under “equal” or “not equal” to 10.
I would suggest printing each of the pages on card stock and then laminating before cutting out the cards. Then you can simply store all the pieces in a ziplock bag to use again and again.
Teaching Kids to Make Ten:
As I mentioned, recognizing the various ways to “make ten” is a very useful skill for Kindergarten and first grade. When kids begin to add larger numbers, decomposing a number to make a ten often simplifies the problem.
If this is something your kids are still unsure about, I would encourage you to print this activity, then find more ways to practice this skill.
